The Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund

The Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund was created to increase access to community recreation resources for Black and Native American youth living in West Contra Costa County, recognizing the vast potential this group of young people possesses to shape community culture and well-being. For eligible families, this fund reduces the cost of El Cerrito Recreation Department programs by as much as 100%, significantly increasing their availability to families who have historically been denied, or lacked access to, full and equal participation in the local economy and the benefits it generates.*

To be eligible for a Youth Recreation Scholarship an individual (the “Applicant”) must:

- Be a Resident of West Contra Costa County with an El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Richmond, or San Pablo zip code.

- Be 21 years of age or younger.

- Identify as Black American, African American, or Native American whose ancestors occupied the lands in the present day borders of the United States.

- Be registered, or create a household account, in the El Cerrito Recreation Department’s WebTrac class signup system www.el-cerrito.org/onlinereg.

*Funding for the Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund was specifically intended as a fund for Black and Native American youth. Both YES and The City of El Cerrito have additional scholarship funding for youth of all backgrounds who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
