Family Camp

Family Camps are community retreats in the redwoods which cultivate self-awareness, connection to nature, and strong bonds. The camps are also a platform for youth and adult participants to practice their leadership amongst their families and community.

At Family Camp, parents/caregivers and their children build cross-generational and peer-group relationships, become inspired to engage in their communities, and connect with the solace, joy, adventure, fun, and opportunities for growth that nature provides.

Weekend Family Camps take place in coastal redwoods at YMCA Camp Loma Mar, approximately 2 hours from Richmond, and are conducted in both English and Spanish by YES staff and volunteers.

YES currently hosts three Family Camps each year:

  • April: Priority given to active YES cohort members and their families

  • May: Designed exclusivity for Black and African-American, or multi-racial families with at least one member identifying as Black or African-American

  • Fall: open only for Richmond Outdoors Coalition (ROC) students and their families

YES made it possible to for everyone to participate in such a beautiful way. Everything was my favoriate! You cannot put a numbver on the bonds created in this space. Truly an invaluable experience.
