2020-21 ANNUAL REPORT

August 2020-September 2021

Our Mission & Vision

In partnership with nature, YES nurtures leaders who champion the wellbeing of our community.

Our vision is for Richmond youth, adults and families to lead healthy, connected lives; motivate change in their neighborhoods; and inspire a safe, thriving community.

For 22 years, YES Nature to Neighborhoods has acted on research proving that time spent in nature benefits individual health and well-being in myriad ways. We also know that the effects of the outdoors stretch far beyond the individual.

When people feel connected to their natural environment, and feel compelled to preserve it, that connection spreads to those they share the space with, regardless of differences in background, language, or ethnicity.

The message is clear: By creating access for youth and families to spend more time together outdoors, we foster healthier communities.

Together, we've accomplished so much.

Despite the continued effects of the pandemic, YES has safely resumed in-person programming thanks to the support and strength of our community.

Since May 2020, the YES Resilience Fund has provided $90,000 in direct disbursements to 180 families.

Family Camp weekend can change a kid’s life and even an adult’s life, and that is something truly special. This is why I consistently come back [to volunteer]. Being on the other side of things, I can see clear as day what YES has been fighting for – a world where kids can feel safe and be themselves.
